Theo Gkousarov
Meteorologist and Project Developer
Theo was born during a heavy snowstorm in December 1985. This must have had an influence on his future as he had a habit of staying in front of the window during bad weather conditions growing up, especially in winter. It was snowfall that triggered his curiosity and turned him into a weather enthusiast. He was raised in northern Greece, but moved south to study Environmental Engineering and Natural Resources at the Technological Educational Institute of Crete. In 2008 Theo attended a 10-month training program in operational weather forecasting as part of his degree. In 2009 he participated in the Socrates Erasmus student exchange program during which he spent a semester abroad in Vilnius, Lithuania studying chemistry and electronics.
As part of the Erasmus program he gained an internship as a trainee forecaster at Weatherquest in 2011. Upon the completion of his internship, he was given the opportunity to extend his time at Weatherquest as a forecaster and project developer. He was even given a desk by the window so he could continue to watch the weather just as he did as a boy!
When Theo is not looking at weather data, he enjoys travelling and discovering new cultures and landscapes. So far he has visited 19 countries on 3 continents. His ambition is to undertake a PhD in a meteorology-related subject, preferably in the field of Renewable Energy.
